Training of Employees

The US Dept. of Transportation (DOT) needs companies shipping hazardous material to certify, test and train the Hazmat staff, every three years. Such staff must be trained in security awareness, general awareness, in-depth training in security and all specific requirements for shipping hazardous material.

A Hazmat employee refers to a person employed by a hazmat shipping company and who is directly involved in shipping of Hazardous Material (HM). This implies both an owner operator of a motor vehicle (transporting HM) and a person employed for:

  • Loading and unloading of HM
  • Manufactures, repairs, tests or reconditions carriers for HM transportation.
  • Prepares HM for transport and is responsible for its safety
